Back to School With You: Empowering Durham's Hispanic Community
The transition from summer break to the start of a new school year can be an exciting yet challenging time for students and their families. In a collaborative effort to provide assistance to Durham's Latino community, Univision, El Centro Hispano, and Durham Parks and Recreation have joined forces to organize an exceptional Back to School event. Designed to provide essential resources and support, this event promises to empower the community while fostering a positive start to the academic year. Scheduled to take place at Durham Central Park on July 30th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., this celebration will feature free school supplies, vision tests, entertainment, literature, and much more.
Supporting Education
Education is the cornerstone of personal growth and community development. By partnering with Univision and El Centro Hispano, this back-to-school event aims to ensure that Latino students in Durham have the necessary tools to thrive academically. The provision of free school supplies, ranging from backpacks and notebooks to pencils and calculators, will alleviate the financial burden on families and create an environment where every child can excel.
Promoting Health and Wellness
Understanding the crucial role that health plays in a student's success, school-aged children will have access to vision tests during the event. Regular vision screenings are essential to identify any potential vision issues that may hinder a child's learning experience. By offering these tests on-site, families will have the opportunity to address any concerns promptly and provide their children with the necessary eye care. A healthier vision means a brighter future!
Entertainment and Literature
Education goes beyond textbooks and pencils; it involves fostering a love for learning and encouraging creativity. The Back to School event will feature an exciting lineup of entertainment, including live performances, music, and interactive activities. Cultural performances will add an extra layer of celebration, highlighting the diverse heritage and traditions of Durham's Latino community.
Additionally, the event will provide an abundance of literature resources, including books in both English and Spanish. Encouraging a passion for reading among young students not only enhances their language skills but also broadens their horizons and instills a lifelong love for learning.
Back to School With You is set to create a memorable experience for Durham's Latino population. By providing free school supplies, vision tests, entertainment, literature, and more, this event aims to alleviate the challenges associated with the start of a new school year. Moreover, it serves as a reminder of the power of collaboration and community engagement in creating positive change. Join us on July 30th at Durham Central Park to empower school-aged youth to reach for the stars.
