For decades, public swimming pools have been the center of communities, especially during the scorching summer months. Since the 1930s, Durham Parks and Recreation’s Aquatic facilities have provided opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and relaxation for Durham residents. Additionally, we provide opportunities for swim lessons and water safety education.
We understand the importance of providing safe and enjoyable aquatic experiences for the Durham community. That's why we're excited to announce three open positions within our Aquatics Unit, each playing a crucial role in ensuring that families can "play more" this summer.
DPR Summer/Seasonal Aquatic Facility Manager
As a DPR Summer/Seasonal Aquatic Facility Manager, you'll be at the forefront of managing our pools to the highest standards of safety and service for the summer. From opening and closing the facilities daily to providing supervision, cleaning, and routine maintenance, your role will be essential in creating a welcoming environment for all patrons. Whether you're teaching swimming lessons, ensuring water safety, or offering top-notch customer service, you'll play a vital part in making every visit to our pools a memorable one. The salary range for this position is $21.44 - $24.13 Hourly.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
Two (2) years of direct aquatics experience.
At least 18 years of age.
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Must have and maintain valid American Red Cross Certificates (or equivalent certifications by another nationally recognized agency which are valid at all pool facilities):
Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
Certified Pool Operator
DPR Summer/Seasonal Lifeguard
As a DPR Summer/Seasonal Lifeguard, your primary responsibility will be the safety and well-being of our patrons. From educating them on pool rules to enforcing safety regulations and providing surveillance, you'll be the guardian of our aquatic spaces. Conducting swim lessons, maintaining cleanliness and safety on the pool deck, and responding to emergencies with calm and efficiency are all part of the role. Join us in ensuring that every visitor enjoys a fun and secure aquatic experience. The salary range for this position is $18.90 - $21.28 Hourly.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Requires the ability to read, write and follow directions.
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must possess and maintain valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or certification by another nationally recognized agency which is valid at all pool facilities.
Aquatic Aide (Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor Trainee)
If you're looking to kickstart your career in aquatics, our Aquatic Aide position might be the perfect fit for you. As an aide, you'll assist participants in various aquatic activities, learning and enforcing safety rules while gaining valuable experience in pool maintenance and customer service. This role offers the opportunity to develop essential skills and work towards becoming a certified lifeguard or water safety instructor.
