Get Involved: Volunteer with Durham Parks and Recreation!
Spring is the perfect season to get outdoors, connect with your community, and make a positive impact—and we have plenty of opportunities for you to do just that!
Whether you’re passionate about nature, community events, or simply looking for a way to give back, DPR offers a variety of volunteer roles to match your interests.
Here’s a look at some exciting ways you can get involved this season:
Invasive Plant Removals (March 21-23 & April 5-12) – Help restore Rock Quarry Park, Garrett Road Park, and Crest Street Park by removing harmful invasive plants.
Trail Workdays (March 29 & April 3) – Love hiking or biking on Durham’s trails? Give back by assisting with trail maintenance at the American Tobacco Trail and West Point on the Eno. Help keep our outdoor spaces safe and accessible for all!
Spring Egg Hunts (April 12) – Celebrate spring with DPR’s annual egg hunts! Volunteers will help organize activities for kids and even a special dog-friendly egg hunt. This is a fun way to bring joy to families while contributing to a beloved tradition.

Canine Field Day (April 26) – Dog lovers, this one’s for you! Join us in creating a fun-filled day for pets and their owners with obstacle courses, contests, and engaging activities. Volunteers help make this tail-wagging good time run smoothly
Earth Day Celebration (April 27) – Support sustainability efforts by volunteering at DPR’s Earth Day festival. From assisting with eco-friendly activities to engaging with the community, you’ll play a key role in making this event a success.
