Here at Durham Parks and Recreation, our Mature Adults staff offers a host of programs and activities for persons 55 or better. Participants can travel, get fit, and/or learn something new all while meeting new friends! For the new year, we are thrilled to explore the hidden gems right in our backyard. Durham is a hub of cultural richness and culinary diversity, and what better way to celebrate than through a series of engaging and enriching outings designed for mature adults? From savoring mouthwatering dishes at locally-owned restaurants to delving into history at renowned museums, there's something for everyone seeking adventure and connection.

Join us as we support locally owned restaurants in Durham during the month of February. Our journey kicks off with a flavorful visit to Boricua Soul. This culinary haven is known for its fusion of classic Puerto Rican and Southern cuisines. From empanadas to BBQ-infused delights, Boricua Soul promises a savory experience for your taste buds.
Transportation to and from the restaurant will be provided and each participant will be responsible for his/her/their meal costs.
International Civil Rights Museum & Center

In honor of Black History Month we are venturing off to the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro for a guided tour. The museum is an archival center, teaching museum and collecting facility devoted to the international struggle for civil and human rights. You will have the opportunity to see the original portion of the Woolworth's lunch counter and stools where the four students sat on February 1, 1960. There is also a gift shop on site which will be available for shopping and then we’re off for a leisurely lunch.
