DPR Kicks off Centennial Celebration!
Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) is thrilled to announce the launch of DPR 100, a yearlong celebration commemorating a century of fostering connections within the community—connecting residents to wellness, the outdoors, lifelong learning, and a host of opportunities to 'Play More’.
On February 7, the Durham Parks Foundation hosted DPR’s Centennial Celebration Kickoff at the Rickhouse. The event featured a Jazz band, special guests, an interactive multimedia exhibit, and more. Former Mayors Bill Bell and Steve Schewel were in attendance and Governor Roy Cooper sent in a celebratory video message. The Centennial Celebration will culminate in December at Durham’s 2024 Holiday Parade.
DPR 100 will be an immersive celebration spanning our past, present, and the promising future that awaits. Through a multitude of centennial-themed events, programs, park projects, an online exhibit, and meticulous planning, DPR 100 aims to narrate Durham Parks and Recreation's origin story, showcase our growth and evolution, and set the stage for a future that connects the Durham community to opportunities to 'Play More.
There will also be celebrations throughout the year including DPR’s official birthday celebration at Durham’s Earth Day on April 21. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of DPR's vibrant history! For a full calendar of DPR 100 activities, click here.
