Hosted by the City of Durham Public Works Department Stormwater Division and Keep Durham Beautiful, Durham Creek Week invites residents to take action to protect local creeks, rivers, and lakes. Participants can help remove litter, explore nature, and discover how everyday choices impact water quality.
Events include volunteer cleanups, guided paddling trips, and trail walks. Those who prefer to participate from home can play Creek Week Bingo or explore recommended books and resources.
“Durham Creek Week shows how small actions can lead to big changes for our waterways,” said Tania Dautlick, executive director of Keep Durham Beautiful. “When individuals and community groups come together, we protect our creeks, reduce pollution, and create a healthier environment for everyone.”
Since 2009, Durham Creek Week has taken place during the third week of March. More than 5,200 volunteers have participated, collecting 223,500 pounds of litter to date. The City’s Neighborhood Improvement Services Impact Team and the Durham County General Services Department will once again help remove and recycle collected litter.
